I was sitting at a clients house, finishing a setup (I had just re-imaged their computer) when I received a call from my CWNA instructor. It seems the former IT guy for the school, who I had an intense rivalry with while I was there, is going to be joining our class as a student. To make things even more ironic, and I’m not sure if he was kidding or not, he asked me if I would help him catch up to the rest of the class since we’re in our third week already.

Damn, it’s that black hat/white hat argument again. Do I actually take him under my wing and teach him to catch up with the class, or do I drop him in the grease and let him drown in his own horrific stupidity? In between personal fantasies of finally putting him in his place, and showing him that I’m the better man because I’m still willing to help him out since he does after all have the guts to go back to a school he walked out of, and while there repeatedly stated how much better he was than all of us students AND teachers.

Well, IF he shows up, and the instructor wasn’t kidding, I’ve decided to take him under my wing. Of course this is all hinging on the fact that he both shows up, and is willing to submit to a former rival turned peer. If he chooses to remain a snob and think that he is better than the rest of us, I will then have no problem in leaving him in our collective dust, because I will do everything I can to ensure that the rest of the class excels FAR ahead of him.
